Lisa's Musings

there's little i control

nothing like working till the last possible minute, huh? before i take off i wanted to announce the launch of a project i've been working on for quite a few months now. and it's something i think many of you will be interested in.

Modern Craft is a new business venture for laura. she is selling japanese craft books, fabric, and zakka of all sort on her site [yes, drool here]. she's still getting the shop up to full speed, but there are already some really lovely things for sale.

i developed her logo and website and got to do some really fun drawings that are featured on the site. [the shop was developed by my good friend patrick of chethamlane using zen cart technology.] working with laura was really great - in fact at this point i'd consider her more of a friend than a client [how lucky that i have a job where this is possible?]

please spread the word and welcome Modern-Craft ! if you want to know the latest on the store laura's also started a Modern-Craft blog [and now i can breathe a sigh of relief and get on my plane]

well.....

installations in a box

this is all it takes to make 2 installations. at least i hope it's all it takes because if i forgot something i'm screwed! me and this box and a couple suitcases [one mostly empty] are headed on a jet plane on sunday. i can't believe it. it doesn't seem real. this show has been in the works for eons - fell through once because of funding and then.... well.... here it is. and here i go. and i've been frantically trying to get ready. and i'm about as ready as i'll ever be i guess.

the show will be at the Koumi Museum ... in.... JAPAN! [koumi is near Nagao - think olympics]. we install for almost two weeks. i'm hopefuly doing both a tank and a doily installation.... and the show opens June 24th at 3pm [on the off chance someone wants to and CAN come].

link to the museum here . it was built by ando tado {!!! architect god !!!}. there's some info in english on the place here . there's info on the show [in japanese] here . i'm the only woman. hmmm.

anyway - after the show i will be travelling around the country. if i have decent internet access i will post here and post pics on my flickr from time to time. but i doubt i'll be reading many blogs :) - although never say never. i hope i can pop into your worlds from now and again while i'm gone and well.... wish me luck!! i'll be back in july!!

btw... it was my turn to post on ship today....

seating

but i really don't want to believe that. i just got thru the last of my one-to-one meetings with my professional practice students [15 minutes each. they had to present their cover letters, resumes, portfolios and website]. word of the day is consitency. some of them are ready and some of them are not. and i have to let that go. i can only do so much in 10 sessions minutes before they graduate.

above is a photo from the wedding over the weekend. it was hot. it was on a lake, in a vineyard, everything was tinged in earth tones. you can see a bit more here .

squirrel for gracia

this little squirrel - a prize that gracia won {eons ago - i'm so sorry for the delay}. landed safe in the other hemisphere. i think he will be most happy amongst all the critters in gracia and louise's welcoming home....

and i have my own laundry list of thank yous to accomplish:: [deep breath]
recent goodies

from the top.... a surprise [which could really suit me no better] from camilla - or more accurately a hug from sweden. i just sent her a kiss back, so hopefully it will arrive safe too.

row 2 :: books [and passes to moca!!] from annabelle. pictured on a right is a detail of the work of liz larner . also right up my alley.

row 3 - left :: marieke and i traded. swoon. i actually want it to be cold so i can wear the adorable hand warmers. and she threw in so many extra goodies. thank you sweet one!

row 3 - right :: vintage buttons of the most amazing variety from paula

row 4 :: once again dear bablefish has provided eye candy of the UK variety. sigh

row 5 :: the ever so kind abigail sent along absolute delights - more fashion inspriation, some colored pens, her kraft paper prints {!!!} and adorable moo cards, and 2 silk bobbins all the way from france {sigh}. i think they are getting along nicely w/ my giant bobbin, no?

row 6 - left :: i met with lisa c the other week hoping to teach her how to crochet . [i hope you are practicing lisa!] and she brought a bag full of goodies. lucky me.

row 6 - right :: amisha sent along a bar of lilac cocoa butter soap. [that's her picture btw]. if you have been lucky enough to try her soaps - it's hard to go back to store bought once you have. she is travelling, but perhaps with some nudging we can get her to sell her soap sometime soon.

i also need to thank christine who sent the nicest easter goodies - how long ago was that??!! [of which all were devoured] and of which i never properly photo'd.

i have a feeling i'm forgetting someone - so if i have - forgive me. my mind is awhirl. there is so much going on right now i think i might burst - but i'll save that for my next post. [where i will promtply pulverize, shoot out of the screen, and make a mess of all your monitors]

pipe dreams

i am completely humbled. in awe of your incredible response to my last post. there are no words to properly describe my gratitude. your sympathy, empathy and personal stories were helpful in ways that are hard to express. your continued visits, emails, and check ins with me have meant more than i could possibly say. in moments of darkness it's heartening to feel that there are those that will shine a light... and who care... and more importantly understand.

to be honest i wasn't sure how to come back here. but i am trying to find some comfort in routine. even though lately that seems impossible. i want to be able to share, to continue to look and seek and find beauty. to revel in the community and see what everyone has been up to [so much! i have missed so much!]. plus i have a pact to uphold with someone .

i do want to share one set of thoughts i've had over the last few weeks - mostly because i've been thinking a lot about what we choose to reveal. and how there are so many things that could potentially be in the hearts and minds of those we encounter day to day and how you'd never know [or can only guess. over the last 2 weeks 3 random people who know me - not well - but see me often said they didn't recognize me. of course i didn't tell them why that might be]. unless... unless you just say. and so i say ::

guilt and grief are like siamese twins. conjoined and interdependant but with their individual devious minds. seeping into one another the lines become blurry. blurry with tears. heartache is aptly named - muscles scarcely used so noticeable [how we take heart beats for granted] - wrack your chest, constrict your throat, control spasms and waves. waiting for the day when there are only fond memories and when simple, normal tasks will ultimately again be SIMPLE and NORMAL.

todays sermon

i haven't taken any photos these last 2 weeks. i couldn't really "see". but yesterday i had to walk home from taking the car to the garage and i finally shot something. the results are what you see here.

i'm off to a wedding this afternoon. it's going to be on a ranch in napa. should be pretty.

and if you are in florida near miami and want to see some felt tanks to to the show i'm in at the art center . i guess at the opening 15 tanks got stollen [to the great embarassment of the curator. i tried to tell her not to worry!]. for some reason i thought that was so funny. esp. since they are only $2.50. you could have one legitimately for the price of a cup of coffee and yet.... bad art karma for the theives i think.

no need to touch

have a good weekend.
