Lisa's Musings

there's little i control

i'm feeling short on words.... so just a couple thoughts....

uniform studio

the other day i woke up and put together an outfit totally inspired by martha of uniform studio. i have always loved gray and ochre together, but i had never worn them together. my outfit was no where near as amazing as the clothes that are available at uniform studio , but... i was happy to wear things in my wardrobe in a new combination!

julie mehretu

julie mehretu is an aritst i have a serious crush on. her work is so layered - photos will never do it justice - the intricacy and the attention to detail and pattern just blows me away. i've been lucky enough to see her work twice in person. once at the berkeley art museum and one time at the whitney .

there's a new book of hers. i think i might have to get it.

hope your second half of the week goes well! stay tuned... on monday a project gets announced here!

wow. you look fabulous. i love the colour combination. you have inspired me to seek out new colours when shopping as my wardrobe right now consists of mainly black.

at first i just looked at the photos of you and thought, "damn. lisa has the best style. i wish i could hire her to be my stylist." and then i saw yoru outfit was inspired by uniform studio...another woman who i wish could be my stylist. so now i am thinking i will pay for the two of you to come here and go through all of my clothes with me. a girl can dream, right? maybe you should open a the lisa s. museum of art, fashion, and design. you know i'd be there in a second.

you are just too lovely, and so is your site re-design.
i am in awe of your hand drawings. i have always been scared of drawing or painting hands, but it's always what i'm drawn to in artwork.

A little inspiration, and changing things up a little, can go a long way :)
Amazing artist- so much space in the work you've shown.

Love the colour combination - Unlike bugheart, I wear ochre well, but grey (and black) make me look like I'm ill :-( Thanks for the post on Mehretu, absolutely incredible- you can see hundreds of different pictures, depending on the layers you concentrate / add togehter!

    Hi Lisa,
Wow, I'm really blown away by Julie Mehretu's drawings! That book is definitely on my wish list. Were they really big drawings and what kind of mediums does she use beside what looks like drawing on mylar? I wish I could see them in person too:)

and glad you like julie mehretu too!!

  27. # Blogger Liesl

Oh, I love Mehretu's work also. Wasn't that piece at the Whitney biennial amazing? Photos really can't capture it.

Julie's Mehretu remind me of Maria Helena Vieira da Silva's (1908-1992) work. She was a Portuguese born and later naturalized french painter. One of my favourites.
Here is a link to a few of her paintings:
